Rate this book
A poisonous, living Web surrounds the Norwegian village of Tuntre, keeping the residents isolated and terrified. The web-shaped scar on Ingrid Hansen’s face is a constant reminder of the threat they face, leaving her ostracized and feared. As high school nears its end, and a future as miserable as her past lays before her, a mysterious journal appears that is written to Ingrid specifically. The strange diary states that Ingrid is the origin of the Web – and she alone can set her town free. Now, with her only friends by her side, Ingrid must find out if she can be the hero she longs to be – but the hardest monster to defeat is one she may not be ready to confront.

A fun and intriguing YA read, The Web of Loki is the story of Ingrid and her three friends who seem eternally trapped in a Nordic village surrounded by a lethal sticky web that keeps the villagers' prisoner. Marked as a child by the web, Ingrid bears the scar on her face as a permanent reminder of the web’s power and is herself feared by the villagers and considered unlucky.

Discovering tantalising clues addressed to Ingrid in an old book, she and her friends decide to leave the village in an attempt to discover the truth behind the web and if anything can be done to break its stranglehold over the village.

A quick read, the plot bounces along nicely with enough twists and mishaps to keep the reader entertained. On the surface, this is much like every other YA read with teenagers running into trouble and sometimes making questionable choices. But underneath runs a powerful message of self-belief, confidence, body image, and how strongly the mind can influence the way we perceive other people and the world around us.

A solid 4 stars and an entertaining read for ages 13+ and all those who enjoy books such as Percy Jackson and Harry Potter.

Freya’s gown what a great book! 😉 I was especially moved by the poem in the end. This book is a must read for teenage girls who love to dream.

I got to read an ARC of this. I loved it. There were unexpected twist. I liked all the Norse mythology ( that had a few twist in it too). I can't give any details due to it not being released yet. Thank you for letting me read it! I would love to read more about the world you created. Highly recommend.

What a fabulous story from an author I never heard of! I felt so sorry for the little girl named Ingrid who accidentally touched the black web in the tree that burned her face and it left a black spider web on her face. The Web of Loki is a bit scary for younger children, but I really enjoyed the book.
