The book was easy to read, and it's amazing how Triana's time travel destinations were based on history or literary references. I'm looking forward to the sequel, Settlers, because the ending left many questions unanswered.

"On the Greek island of Ikaria there lived a fair maiden named Arianne. Her hair was the color of the midnight sky, and as shiny as the slick wet skin of a whale. One of her rare traits of beauty was her multicolored eyes. She had one green eye and the other blue, which resembled the different depths of the ocean. Her melodic voice could not be adequately described in words. The music flowed from her mouth as if it was enchanted by something supernatural."
.
“My love is part of the ocean; my love is part of the sea My heart belongs to the ocean; my love is a part of me I know not where he is now, but I will wait for his return I will wait and wait forever, until his fate I learn To become part of the ocean, to join him in the sea Today I want to be with him, for eternity. "
.
.
Castillo comes from the planet Kyra sent to earth as a merman, to protect him from his enemies, and unbeknownst to him, his life and his heart is connected to Arianne. Her beautiful voice calls to him.
.
"Until she was six years old, Triana’s life had been delightfully normal for a mermaid."
.
Triana is destined to be the Queen of the mermaids. But there is an evil lurking, wanting to destroy her. Alexio wants to help her, but can she really trust him?
.
This is a lovely story of love and heartbreak, mermaids and mermen, and time travel including historical context.
.
If you love the sea, mermaids, time travel and romance, then you will definitely enjoy the story of Castillo and Arianne, and Triana and Alexio.

I just finished reading Travelers by Carla Reighard. You definitely don't have to be a kid to enjoy this story about time traveling mermaids. It is a great love story with a strong female lead who puts her people above all else...even at times her heart. Without giving too much away I would like to say that nowhere else have I read a book that combines, time traveling magic wielding merpeople from another world. It was done in a well put together way that even delves into some of our favorite characters from history. I'll leave you with this...if you like Gilmore girls - and come on, who doesn't? - you need to check out this book. I can't wait to read what happens in the next installment of the Travelers Duology and see where Triana's story and heart take her next.

Travelers is a fun and quick read about a mermaid traveling through time and essentially body hopping in order to save her people. I loved the world building and characters in Travelers and look forward to reading the sequel, however, there were a few things that were left open-ended in order for there to be a sequel.

Travelers follows the story of a mermaid named Triana as she travels through time to save her people. The gem of the story, in my opinion, are the subtle nods to pop culture! Every time she encountered a character from a book, movie or tv show that I was familiar with I found myself smiling.

Wow this is full of twist. Duel love stories in parts. Just when I thought I had it figured out, it would go in a completely new direction. Lots of pop culture and historical references.

Complicated fantasy tale about a race of mermaids and mermen from the planet Kyra. The merpeople were sent to live in earth's oceans by Poseidon, the king of Kyra until the evil that threatened them was destroyed. The Stones of Power were the key that protected them, their leader and the way back to their planet. Triana, the protagonist, and Esmerilla, the antagonist matched wits and power as Esmerilla tried to gain all the stones and power for herself. Secrets are held close and slowly revealed as the plot expands. The ending is left open by the author to allow a second tale to be delivered in the future.
